Where Heathenism Thrives In 'Christian' Prayer Today.

Where Heathenism Thrives In 'Christian' Prayer Today.

The religious mindset that loud prayers of repetitions are powerful & heard by God, is that which Jesus revealed as a heathen/pagan practise & a vain/empty religious exercise.

Matthew 6:7
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

Mark the words: "they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking".

This is not just a thought or mindset but a practise thus Jesus warns his disciples against using vain repetition while praying, like the heathen do.

The wrong thought/mindset had already given birth to a wrong practise.
There are many of such wrong and heathen thoughts(ideologies) & practises imported into present day christendom.

When a supposed christian preacher comes up shouting fire fireya yaya yaya! or telling people he's leading in prayers, to shout "fire" 7 times or 12 times, don't marvel at where he or she imported such a strange practise from. This was what the prophets of Baal did in the days of Elijah, shouting and calling upon Baal to send down fire, from morning till the time of the evening sacrifice, yet there was no manifestation of fire.

While exercising themselves in their heathen prayers, Elijah mocked them saying: "Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he is sleeping, and must be woken up". They foolishly increased the intensity and tempo of their prayers by crying out loud cutting themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them.

Note: Scripture says "after their manner" showing that it was not just that Elijah mocked them, this was their manner/custom in prayer. To them prayer must be very dramatic, vociferous/loud, intense and fierce to make an impact on their god. 1st Kings 18:26-29.

Elijah mocked such a heathen practise & ideology of a god whose prophets/worshippers must shout, tear themselves apart and cry aloud to be heard of him.

Indeed such a heathen practise among christians today, is worthy of being mocked and vehemently censured/rebuked.

In contrast to the very dramatic prayer show made by the prophets of Baal, Elijah the prophet of the Lord prayed a very simple prayer of faith and God answered by fire; he didn't shout fire 7 times, he didn't even ask God to send down fire, he simply prayed thus:  "LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word. Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again."

It was a prayer of faith & full of power and divine/heavenly authority, simply because he had followed/obeyed the Word of God strictly..."I have done all these things at thy Word".
He had not done things according to how he felt or what he thought he must do to get God's attention, to get God to hear him. He simply did what God told him to do & God immediately responded to the obedience of faith.

There was absolutely nothing dramatic or sensational about his prayer. He did not have to employ stage/altar theatrics to be heard of God.

Child of God be not like the heathen when you pray to your Father, you must not shout Amen 10 or 20 times for a matter to be established in prayer, for like Jesus said, your Father knows what things you have need of, even before you ask him.

One might say but people who embark on loud prayers & repetitions of fire, amen etc. get results and testimonies when they engage in such a religious exercise, so how is it vain?

It is vain simply because Jesus said that such is vain and also revealed it to be a heathen practise; getting results or testimonies does not change the fact that it is a wrong mindset, vain religious exercise & heathen practise.
Adam & Eve sinned against God yet in disobedience they got result, they had what many today will call testimony or evidence..."their eyes were opened to know both good & evil".
This was like their next level as they began to see things & the world at large in a different/fuller light, awareness and knowledge, yet their breakthrough in knowledge, awareness & attainment of this next level status, was all in disobedience & error.

Cain slew Abel and was banished by God as a vagabond & fugitive yet he had results, he prospered in this world, as he settled in the land of Nod(his permanent site) and became the first man to build a city, but was that a lasting/abiding city? What about his generation, what became of his seed/lineage upon the earth? All swept away in the flood that came in the days of Noah.

Do not be carried away by what people call results/testimonies of breakthrough and prosperity in this world.
