The Agony And Burden Of A Nation @ 59.

The Agony & Burden Of A Nation @ 59.

Which is easier to say?
"Happy Independence!" Or "Happy New Month"?

When you live in a nation where for the past 59 years, provision of basic infrastructure has been a promise and struggle for successive governments to achieve, it's such a burden to say a happy 59th.

When you live in a nation in the 21st century, where power supply and access to clean water is a luxury, it's such a heaviness and agony of heart to say happy independence; especially in the face of a glaring fact that it is a nation so blessed with natural resources, and men/women who are so capaciously resourced and resourceful.

When you live in a nation where money is so revered and valued above everything including human lives, and such a flawed and dangerous value system is the fabric/core of society; it is such a heavy burden which often leaves those whose contemplation and grouse it is, utterly speechless and helpless in the face of a seeming hopeless situation.

What values/exclusive advantage does being a Nigerian citizen confer on us over non citizens?

They say a nation(a people) deserve the leaders they get, but i say that's not actually right; a nation produces her leaders; leaders are made and not given.
The leaders we have, are the leaders our society produced/made and not the leaders we got or were given.
A failed society will inevitably produce a failed leadership.

There is no leadership without followership, it takes both to make the ship and if the ship 🚢 is sinking rather than sailing onto safe shores, both are in the shipwreck and should take responsibility to salvage the situation and save themselves.
You don't sit back in a sinking ship casting all the blames on the captain while you watch yourself sink, without rising to take responsibility for your safety and future.

It will shock you to discover that more than 80% of Nigerians who get on cyberspace to rant and rave about the abysmal state of the nation, will neither support/commit to a good cause, initiative or process of change.
They are not ready for the process, they rather want change to occur/happen, but real and sustainable change is not magic neither is it an occasion/event, it is a process.
We must transit from being an occasion/event people to being a people of process.

As much as there is no leadership without followership, there is also no government without the governed.
The failure of government is the failure of both the governing and the governed.

Next time you say that government has failed or is dead, don't just think about the ruling class only, see also the complicity of the governed whether through passive or active irresponsibility, not caring about the process(how they are being governed), taking responsibility to actively engage government to make things work.

For there to be any hope of true change, there must arise a new breed of young men and women with the owners mentality.
We must be able to arise and own the mess, own the process & own the success.

(1.) Own the Mess(taking corporate responsibility for the failure of government)

(2.) Own the Process of change(taking corporate responsibility to resit and rewrite that history of failure).

(3.) Own the Success(our names written/etched on the walls of history as those who arose to the occasion to change the tides and course).
