True Prophetic Ministry.

True Prophetic Ministry.

Prophetic ministry is a much larger call/responsibility than the predictive or diagnostic; the prophetic function goes far beyond prediction of mere events, happenings, dates and spiritual diagnosis.

If all we do in the name of prophetic ministry, is prediction of events or diagnosis of people's circumstances and history, than we're just foretellers and prognosticators.

Sadly, in a time of declension such as the days we live in, when spiritual discernment is so scarce amongst many of God's people; what is known and recognised as prophetic ministry is prediction of events and diagnosis of people's conditions. It is not a surprise to see multitudes thronging meetings where they expect to hear what they call 'prophecies' and to receive signs and wonders.

Once someone starts making accurate predictions and diagnosis, he or she is assumed to be a prophet, and the gullible crowd gather to be ministered to, thus we largely cannot discern the difference between a foreteller/prognosticator and the ministry of a prophet.

True prophetic ministry from the beginning is divinely reactionary, against the course and drift of things amongst God's people; to bring back, to restore, to redeem and bring consolation, by setting forth/presenting again God's original thought, mind and his eternal plans/purposes for his people.

In scriptures, we see that the prophets usually arose as a reaction from God to the course and drift of things amongst his people.

The prophets represented the mind of God against the prevailing course of things, thus the significance of their ministry often came into view; when things were spiritually bad and not according to the divine mind/intention, when things were confused, and mixed up with much deception and falsehood.

They were like the mouthpiece of God to call his people back to repentance, back to order; and also forecast what would be their fate if they fail to heed his voice.

Right there in the garden of Eden, on the eve of the fall led by Eve; we see the foremost expression of prophetic ministry by God himself, when he came speaking of the seed of the woman. This was God's reaction to the drift and course of things following the fall, thus God came forecasting his redemption plan as bound up in the coming seed of the woman(Christ), who would bruise the serpent's head. Genesis 3:15.

We thus see, that from the beginning/genesis of time, the spirit of prophecy has never been a mere prediction, foretelling of events, or spiritual diagnosis but the testimony of Jesus; the setting forth of Jesus as God's reactionary seed to the course and drift of the fall; the presentation of Jesus as the seed of redemption, and as the only hope/consolation of the fallen race of mankind.

Revelation 19:10 "And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."
