False Assertions About Sin. Part 2.

"Sin No Longer Has The Power/Potency To Separate Men From God."

Such assertions spring from the inability to rightly divide the word of truth and distinguish between our spiritual position/placement in Christ as seated in the heavenly places, and our walk on earth unto conformity to his image.

We must not confound our spiritual position/placement in the perfection attained in Christ, with our walk unto that perfection(conformity to his image and to the measure of the stature of his fullness).

In Romans 8:38-39 Paul expressed his persuasion about the irreversibility of our spiritual position and placement in Christ; and it is such that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ. However, in an earlier verse of the same chapter, Paul dealing with the truth about our physical position and walk here on earth, says "Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live." Romans 8:12-13. Paul clearly does not confound the truth of our spiritual position in Christ, with our physical position/walk on earth.

What God has wrought for the church in Christ is final, irreversible, and infallible. However, as individuals called to be his church bride, if we fail to walk worthy of the vocation/calling, we will end up as rejects, yet Christ will still have his church bride at the end of the day.

Paul understood this very well, thus we hear him say: " I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway." 1 Corinthians 9:26-27.

In the days of our flesh/earthly walk unto conformity, we are not infallible and immune to the consequences of sin. If we live after the flesh, we will die, but if we through the Spirit mortify(deaden) the deeds of the body, we shall live(Romans 8:13). Here, spiritual death is the emphasis for natural death comes to all flesh, both to the believers in Christ who walk after the Spirit and natural men who walk after the flesh; thus, if the believer should live after the flesh, spiritual death is inevitable for the wages of sin is death.

It is the deceitfulness of sin for us to think/assume that sin no longer has power to separate men from God. It is as deceitful as assuming that the viper has lost it's poisonous venom, or that it's poisonous venom can no longer kill.

Hebrews 3:12-13 and 17 says "Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?"

The sin which can harden us such that we're no longer open to receive the love of the Father in chastising and rebuking us, but get offended at the slightest rebuke by him; will not only separate us from him, but also lead to perdition/destruction.

See also 1 Corinthians 10:1-12, which is very instructive and replete with warnings to believers against sin, it's grave consequences and finally the self conceit of thinking/assuming that we're standing and immune to falling.

If friendship of the world is enmity against God, such that while seeking friendship with the world(to please men and to be in their good books), we become enemies of God? much more then would sin separate us from God and make us partakers of his wrath along with the children of disobedience. James 4:1-8; 1 John 2:15.

If on account of sin, scripture admonishes us to separate from/put away a brother who habitually lives in sin, and not to company with him, why then do we think that sin can no longer separate us from a holy God who is of a purer eyes to behold evil and cannot look upon iniquity? 1 Corinthians 5:1-13.

If sin no longer has power to separate men from God, how then is the leaven and mystery of iniquity in the midst of God's people, potent enough to work unto apostasy(final defection/falling away)?
2 Thessalonians 2:7.

If sin no longer has power to separate men from God, why is scripture replete with warnings to believers in Christ to avoid fellowship with unfruitful works of darkness, which can rob them of inheritance in the kingdom and make them partake of the wrath of God along with the children of disobedience?  Ephesians 5:3-7; Colossians 3:5-6; Galatians 5:19-21; 1 Corinthians 6:8-10.

Why would the HolySpirit, who inspired the writing of the scriptures be particular in mentioning/listing specific sins which can make the believer not inherit the kingdom of God? Galatians 5:19-21.

Why does scripture warn the believer in Christ to abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul? 1 Peter 2:11

If sin no longer has power to separate men from God, why does scripture warn the believer against the love of money and against many foolish and hurtful lusts, which are potent enough to drown men in destruction and perdition?
1 Timothy 6:8-11.

If sin no longer has power to separate men from God, why would Jesus threaten to spue the church/assembly in Laodicea out of his mouth for their lukewarm, wretched, miserable, blind, and naked state? Is nakedness and the shame of it not that which always goes with sin right from the garden?

And who would doubt that Laodicea was an assembly fraught with sin? Who would doubt that their abysmal spiritual condition and state, was on account of sin, which had separated them from Christ, such that he is outside knocking on the door of their hearts for them to open unto him and be restored to fellowship/supping with him?

If in hardness of heart, they choose to remain in fellowship with sin and unwilling to open to him, will that not lead to the point of final rejection expressed in him spueing them out of his mouth? Revelation 3:14-20.

We cannot claim to have a deep revelation which yet contradicts the scriptures of truth; we can't claim to have a greater revelation than the Revelation of Jesus Christ which God gave him to show unto his servants, things which must shortly come to pass. In the book of Revelation, the Lord has shown us how sin separated his assembly/church in Laodicea from him, such that he is seen standing by the door, knocking for them to open.

The church is clearly warned in the book of Revelation, against sins which can deny one right to the tree of life and access to the eternal city.

"Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star." Revelation 22:14-16.

In all the epistles to the churches/assemblies of Christ, from the book of Romans to Revelation, the voice of scripture is replete and consistent with serious/grave warnings to believers, on how sin can rob them of their inheritance/place in the kingdom, and how without holiness no eye can see God.
