The Peril Of Observing Lying Vanities And The Failure To Discern Times Of Visitation.

So often we go about observing the vanities that lie all around us in this fleeting world, and not just observing them but also vehemently pursuing after, to lay hold on uncertain/vain riches and treasures.

So often we're caught up in this vain and futile pursuit, like we have no stake or place in the heavenly/eternal; we neglect/forsake our own mercy and the eternal riches wherewith God has blessed us in the heavenly places in Christ, and we go about as though we're destitutes and vagabonds like Cain, seeking a permanent site, a continuing city/lasting investment/treasures in a world, where nothing lasts, where nothing is certain/permanent.

The danger of observing lying vanities lies in it's ability to cripple the sensitivity of even the most pious of saints, making us spiritually undiscerning, insensitive, numb and blind to spiritual realities and verities.

In Luke 19:41-44, we see the sorry spiritual state of Jerusalem, the city of the most high God, where the temple of Jehovah sits; with the city and her inhabitants caught up in the observation of lying vanities and engrossed in the pursuit of the business of the day, they were so spiritually insensitive and blind to discern the day of their visitation. They could not see the things which belong unto their peace, they forsook their own mercy.

Luke 19:41-44  "And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation."

Jonah 2:8 "They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy."

Ephesians 2:4-7 "But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus."

Colossians 3:1-2  "If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."

1 Timothy 6:7, 17.
"For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out."

"Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy".
