The Testimony Of Jesus (Part 1).

Revelation 1:1-2 "The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw."

19:10 "And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."

The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy, right from Genesis to Revelation; starting with the very making of man(the first Adam), who was constituted in the image of God and as a figure of him that was to come; to God's own prophecy of the coming seed of the woman bruising the head of the serpent, the entire testimony of scriptures from Genesis to Revelation, is the testimony of Jesus, and speaks of him as the coming one who is and was, and is to come. Romans 5:14; Genesis 3:15; Hebrews 10:37; Revelation 1:4.

The testimony of Jesus is the victory, it is the seal of eternity, the seal of God's rest and the seal of the future and destiny of all things. Being in essence the spirit of prophecy, it touches the entirety of the future and eternity of all things. Ephesians 1:10, 13-14; 4:30.

The Vastness Of The Testimony Of Jesus.

John 5:39 "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me."

The scriptures Jesus referred to here, are the scriptures of the law and the prophets; that is all they had then, beginning with the writings of Moses to that of the prophets. All the scriptures of the law and the prophets of old testify of Christ; they bear the testimony of Christ, much more the gospels and the epistles of the apostles.

The Jews had a false/empty religious  confidence/trust in their spiritual heritage as being the descendants of Abraham, and of the fathers to whom were committed the lively oracles of the law. They trusted in Moses, and assumed that by merely being the custodians of the law/writings of Moses, they had life in the scriptures/writings thereof; however, they did not even believe in the testimony of the writings/scriptures of the law.

45-47 "Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust. For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?"

They were clearly not a people who were diligent in searching the scriptures of the law and the prophets, to see and believe in it's testimony, but a merely religious people who assumed they had life by virtue of being the custodians of the scriptures.

They did not believe the writings/scriptures of Moses. Had they believed in the writings of Moses, they would have believed and come to Christ, that they might have life; for Moses wrote of him.

What about the writings/scriptures of the other prophets who were sent to Israel?

Jeremiah 7:25-26 "Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them: Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers"

See also Jeremiah 25:4 and 26:4-5.

In Romans 16:25-26 Paul speaks of the mystery kept secret since the world began, being made manifest/revealed by his gospel which is the preaching of Jesus Christ as contained in his epistles, and the scriptures of the prophets.

Peter also in his second epistle admonished the saints thus: "be mindful of the words spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour"  2 Peter 3:1-2.
