Scriptures Mostly Misunderstood/Misinterpreted. Part 2.

Matthew 5:17 is one of the most misunderstood scriptures yet often quoted by many.  What did Jesus actually mean by he has not come to destroy the law but to fulfil it?
Matthew 5:17  Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
Now there are two key words which we must examine in this text to understand what Jesus said. (1.) Destroy (2.) Fulfil.
(1.) The word translated as 'destroy' in the text is the original Greek word 'Kataluo' which means to dissolve, disunite, demolish, bring to naught, overthrow, subvert(a law or institution).
(2.) The word translated as 'fulfil' in the text is the original Greek word 'Pleroo' which means to make full, to fill up, to complete, to consummate, to finish, to end. Now considering the meaning of these two words, Jesus actually meant that he has not come to cut off or abrogate the law but to complete, finish & end it. This agrees with Romans 10:4 where scripture says that Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. The word translated as 'end' here is the Greek word 'telos' which means termination, the limit at which a thing ceases to be, the last in any succession or series, that by which a thing is finished, its close. Indeed Christ's coming marked the end of the law. Concerning John the Baptist whose ministry was to reveal & introduce Christ to Israel, Jesus said "the law & the prophets were until John.."(Luke 16:16). John thus represented a turning point & transition as the one commissioned by God to introduce Christ who is the end of the law.
Christ didn't bring the law neither did he come to continue it but to complete & end it. This is exactly what he did when he died on the cross & the veil in the Jewish temple in Jerusalem was rent in twain signifying an end of that old religious system of worship & priesthood.
Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes(Romans 10:4), the law was only but a schoolmaster to lead to Christ(Galatians 3:24-25), however, Israel failed to look to/see the end(Christ) of that which was to be done away(the law) thus they did not receive him when he came(2 Corinthians 3:13).

John 1:17
For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

Galatians 3:24-25.
24  Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25  But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

Romans 7:4-6
4  Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
5  For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
6  But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

Ephesians 2:14-16
14  For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
15  Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
16  And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby.
Colossians 2:13-17
13  And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14  Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15  And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
16  Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17  Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
