The Sophistry of Independence.

From the genesis/beginning of time, bondage/slavery to satan & sin was sold to humanity by the serpent in the wrap, package & ideology of independence. Since then, man has ever nursed the quest to be independent, to be in charge/control of his life and daily affairs, to chart his own course in life such that he can determine his destiny & future, to run things & not to be run by things, to be his own boss & not to be bossed around.
Sadly every step taken by humanity in the way of attaining the independent status of not being controlled/regulated by God has only opened up the way to various forms of bondage. Bondage to self will, self determination, self preference, self ambition, self destruct & to satan who savours the things of men, of self and of the flesh.

Independence according to the basic dictionary definition means freedom from dependence; exemption from reliance on, or control by others; self-subsistence or maintenance; direction of one's own affairs without interference.
Man was basically created to be a relational & dependent being, who would always rely & depend on his maker for his sustenance. 
Independence from God sets him on self destruct.


In The Light Of The Nations & My Nation.

The quest for independence in the world has given rise to the birth of many nations. 
A nation attains an independent status thinking that it would mark an end of all her woes & open doors to unprecedented blessedness/prosperity. Not long after that, her hopes & fantasies are dashed, decades pass by & some of her citizens who were once so elated & proud to belong to the newly independent state are so aggrieved & agitating to break out from her hold & become citizens of yet another independent state of their dream. 
The cycle goes on and on like a rollercoaster and with each new status of independence attained there is still a sense of bondage and a quest to be free.

When I compare the import of the word Independence & the state of my nation since the declaration of her independence, i find myself at loss of the strength to utter the words "happy independence". 
When compelled to say it in response to a happy independence cheer or greeting I cannot help but merely mutter than utter the words.
It seems the colonial masters packaged bondage as independence & sold to us. We so depend and run to them for help much more than when they were here as lords and governors. The greatest bondage and curse is that of visionless & directionless leadership, a leadership not aligned to the throne of God as being under God and dependent on him, eventually leads the people to nowhere. 
When the leadership conferred on Adam veered off from alignment with God, the curse came in as the ground was cursed for man's sake. 
It took a reactionary & prophetic seed called Noah who walked with God and was raised of God, for the cursed earth to be purged by the flood judgment and for fruitfulness to be restored. 
We pray for the release of our nation from the bondage and curse of wrong leadership.

The Man Of God Or The Man Of Himself.  A very thin line exists between a man of God and a man of himself. Many today are called men of God but they are men of themselves or men of the people. They speak of themselves, represent their own interests and concerns, even in the things of God. It's high time we defined who a man of God is.
