THE PROPHET'S RAGE WHEN A DONKEY VOICES THE MESSAGE.

THE PROPHET'S RAGE WHEN A DONKEY VOICES THE MESSAGE.

Judge not the truth by the status of the tongue,

Nor weigh what is spoken by who it is sung.

A lowly mouth may carry heaven’s decree,

While a prophet, though honoured, may fail to see.

Sometimes the voice we dismiss as mockery

Is heaven’s own rebuke for a recovery

Sometimes what offends our prophetic pride

Is mercy itself, standing by our side.

Saints, lay down thy rod of anger

Open thine eyes & see the danger

Standing in the way you insist on

Return to ancient paths to thread on

For the greatest danger is not that the donkey should speak;

The greater danger is when the prophet is too proud to hear & heed.

Not every opposition comes from foes

Some stand in the pathway to keep from woes.

Sometimes mercy will not applaud where we go;

Sometimes mercy will stop us and answer “No.”

Mercy may challenge the way we have chosen,

And humble the certainty our heart has espoused.

Mercy can speak from an unexpected mouth,

From a place we deem unworthy, insignificant or uncouth.

So do not despise the voice because lowly it sounds;

Do not silence the warning because it comes from the ground.

For God may conceal His counsel in unlikely disguise,

And let a donkey see what a prophet fails to realize

Lay down thy pride & rod.

Open thine heart & eyes.

The voice you call mockery

may be heaven’s disguise.

For better to hear a rebuke that preserves you from death

Than applaud your own way till you have no breath.

And better to be humbled by truth from a mouth you despise

Than perish upon a road while believing your vision is wise.

The donkey may oppose & speak to disparage

The prophet may flare or seethe in rage.

But heaven shows up calling the prophet to refrain from his way

That he might be spared of the danger of disorder & disarray.
