Throwback Time To Examine Our Faith.
Time To Begin To Ask Very Pertinent Questions Concerning Our Faith.
"Examine your own selves if ye be in the faith; prove your own selves: do ye not recognise yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you, unless indeed ye be reprobates?"
- 2nd Corinthians 13:5
It's the first day of a new calendar year and it's being impressed upon my heart that it's time for a throwback to examine our faith, time for retrospection & introspection to ask ourselves: what have we really come to believe in all these years?
Is what we have received and believed in consistent with the faith the early church saints tenaciously held unto and died for or died clinging to?
The messages being preached to us today, is it what the apostles like Peter, Paul etc. will be preaching if they were here today?
The prayer points or prayer we're being led to vociferously pray today, is it what the apostles will be leading us to pray for if they were here today?
What is the Christ content of what is being preached to you and the prayers you're being led to pray? Where is Christ in all of that?
It's time not to keep moving the way we've been going but to stand in the ways and look, and ask for the ancient paths, which is the good way, and walk therein.
"Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the ancient paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein." Jeremiah 6:16.
"Because my people have forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up". Jeremiah 18:15.
God is calling us back to the foundation of the apostles & prophets whose emphasis was nothing but Christ as the chief cornerstone(Ephesians 2:20-21), Christ the only foundation which is laid(1st Corinthians 3:11), Christ the wisdom and power of God(1st Corinthians 1:24).
He is calling our attention back to the beginning, back to the resources & values of the past because much of what is going on today is noise with very little or no eternal substance.
In Hebrews 10:32-33 he says to us to call to remembrance the former days, the earlier days in which after you were illuminated, ye endured a great fight and conflict of afflictions; Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used.
In other words, remember when you first believed and the things you passed through and suffered for your faith in Christ.
Remember the former days, your first love which is nothing but Christ and return to the first works(occupation and devotion to nothing but Christ).
In Hebrews 2:1-3 he says to us to give the more abundant & earnest heed/attention to the things we have heard lest in anyway we ourselves slip or be carried away & lose grip on them.
He goes on seeking to cast or throw us back on the foundation of these things we have heard; they are eternal words of verity which began to be spoken by the Lord Himself; then confirmed by those who heard Him(his apostles); and attested/affirmed with all authority by the Holy Spirit with signs and wonders and various acts of power.
Failure to give heed and attention to them could prove fatal for it is tantamount to not just neglecting but despising the so great salvation and for such a despite, the question of fate to ponder in the inspired words is: "how shall we escape?"
May this year become for us a time of deep reflection, examination of faith and return to the ancient, eternal path & way of our God.
May it become a time when we will return to our first love(foremost obsession and occupation) which is nothing but the Lord Jesus.
