Praying In The Name Of The God Of One Preacher Or Another.

Praying In The Name Of The God Of One Preacher Or Another.

There's absolutely no scripture that shows where any believer or church saint appealed to or prayed in the name of the God of any minister/preacher of the gospel like calling upon the God of Paul, the God of Peter or the God of John.

The only place something close to that played out in the days of the early church, is in the case of the sons of Sceva, who tried to cast out a wicked spirit in the name of the Jesus whom Paul preaches ie. The Jesus of Paul; clearly showing they had no personal revelation or relationship with Jesus, but merely appealing to the Jesus of Paul to have the same results Paul has when he prays in the name of Jesus. Acts 19:13-16.

No man who has a personal revelation of Christ and relationship with God as Father will stand praying in the name of the God of any minister like praying in the name of the God of Paul or in the name of the God of Peter, even Peter and Paul would rebuke such nonsense if they were here today to witness such a thing.

In the old testament the children of Israel knew the God of the fathers(Abraham, Isaac and Jacob).

However, in the progressive revelation of God, we see in the new testament, that God himself is revealed as our Father. That is a more direct relationship; not just the God of the fathers but our God and our Father even the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus himself teaching his disciples how to pray, said they should pray thus: "Our Father who art in heaven"

Matthew 6:9.

Following his resurrection, he said to Mary Magdalene: "go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God." John 20:17.

In scripture, none of the apostles or disciples/believers of the early church was ever seen or heard praying in the name of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, despite being largely of Jewish descent.

The greatest revelation of God for them had come in the person of Christ who revealed God as our Father thus their appeal was to God our Father even the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Moreso, God had poured on them as he does on all who believe today, the Spirit of his Son such that we cry Abba Father. Glory to God!

Even Paul who was so entrenched in the religion of the fathers(Jewish religion), on his apprehension by the Lord Jesus & conversion to the faith of Christ, had no other appeal in prayer, in all his epistles, but to God our Father; even the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

His epistles are replete with such expressions which speak of our intimate & affectionate nearness/ closeness to God in Christ.

In closing, let me cite a few examples:

Romans 1:7

To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 15:6

That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

1st Corinthians 1:3

Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 1:16-17

Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.
